What's up with CREATIVE now?

Subject: What's up with CREATIVE now? Sat Apr 25, 2009 5:06 pm

Creative, sound blaster and mp3 maker. Used to be doing well, high stock prices and one of the movers of our economy.

But what happened?

Look at its share price now. We all know it's been this way after the "wars" with ipod Apple, but does anyone know what happened or why is this company like this now?

What has to happen for its situation to improve? Or is there no real hope?

It has to come up with something new. The thing is, sound cards from creative these days are lacking. I heard from someone that the integrated sound cards these days are almost just as good as those from Creative. As for mp3 players, there is so much competition, to name some, Sony, Samsung and of course Apple. Even handphones these days have the mp3 player function inbuilt. And as far as i know, Creative hasnt come up with anything new for quite a long time. The way i look at it, the direction Creative is heading at, sound cards being almost obsolete and mp3 players, its just not good enough. Just giving my two cents worth. study

Apple basically sells based on their product design and tons of marketing. And that's what Creative lacks. Compare a Zen to an iPod. For the same price, or maybe even higher, a consumer would pick the iPod. And that's only the music player market. I think what its lacking is the big M in business, Marketing.

Someone once told me that during the "zen VS ipod" wars, CREATIVE went to take the zen to fight on ipod's home ground, the USA. Apparently an unwise move, as Americans are proud of the ipod, its like a national product. (Sounds a bit communist). So, the CREATIVE zen lost the fight there, and ipod then went on the sweep asian markets.

The same someone advised that things could have been different. If CREATIVE had monopolised the asian markets with the zen first. Effectively fortifying a stronghold in asia, while letting ipod take the USA. This would prevent any "attacks" by the ipod in asian markets.

I agree that CREATIVE has to innovate. I have also observed nothing new or revolutionary from CREATIVE. It has constantly been updating the zen range of mp3 players, but nothing attention grabbing.

NEWS! CREATIVE's latest quarter, Jan 1 to Mar 31, saw losses of S$61.8 million.

Certainly the outlook is not very good. Creative's COO was saying its not good because the economy is bad. But it think the recession is only one reason in a bunch of reasons including poor marketing and ipod rivalries that is causing these losses.

CREACTIVE has to be creative and at the edge at all time. If they are not advancing in their new product development, creating new techy stuff that people like, it would not be surprising to slide.
Technology companies in the market place move super fast ; time and efforts should not be wasted to keep/defend a old and launched product.

i only can say that it is sad to see CREATIVE now at its current state.

What is your take on the CREATIVE status? I agree with esthersoh.
