Anyone interested in doing business in Philippines.
I'm looking into a small hotel cum F&B business.

Anyone with capital that may want to share?

What have you got to start with ? Contact in Philippines?
What is the investment capital ?
Do you have a business proposal?

I personally like the idea of running a small hotel cum F&B business but I prefer China. Am looking at the logistics -like registering a company there, taxation, legal procedures, rental rates, calculating the start-up cost, or even looking partnering with the locals to make things easier. Weigh the risk..... many things you can do before asking for investors.

Why can't the business be in Singapore? Not that I am against doing business overseas, I want to see what are the reasons for not doing business as such this one here.

I chose Philippines because I have a contact there.
Business cost is lower.

I was just looking for any interested party as there is an opportunity to take over a resort which has a lot of Taiwanese & Japanese tourist as it has gambling. I have other interset there as well but this is could be a good deal. Will be going there to check things out probably in July.

As for cost, should be less than $100K

Hey, all i know is, gambling brings in good money. Look at Las Vegas. When you get rich enough, you might want to make a mini one over there.

I have also looked at Singapore. I saw a hotel type building - cost S$22M !
So, I reduced the size of the idea ; am trying to research on those backpacker hostel; and see if the business operation model is sustainable.

Have anyone already done some work there, share ? Thks!

Backpackers? I don't know much about that. Are there that many backpackers here to qualify as a market? I haven't seen that many.

The price difference $22M and less than 100K is steep! Must be all that land they have in Philippines.

Now, we are back into the discussion of Singapore being too small a market to start business. So, the tendency to find overseas as a start up is there...... Smile

Well I will let you know or post it here if I need others or a lucrative deal comes along. However, if I am able to do it myself I will.

Anyone with any business sense would know that in S'pore you either made money when everything was just starting to take shape in the country 40 yrs ago, you have a lot of cash right now to do business or you better invent something. None of the above....look overseas And that's what I intend to do.

Interesting thread - i'm a little late i know.

here's my 2 cts worth:

From what i know, starting a hotel is equivalent to starting 12 businesses or more at once.
(laundry, restaurants & bar, lodging, house-keeping, facilities like gym, swimming pool etc). High capital cost (less if you are taking over an existing hotel & improving it).

Have you looked for existing sites that want to give up their trade? 100K seems like an ok amount to begin with if you are taking over.

There are more than 4 backpacker hostels that i know in Sg. Some of them have very interesting tenants who work full time in Sg. One in particular attract many japanese.

I guess your success in Sg would be based on marketing, location & a certain unique quality.

Other than capital, are there any concerns?
hope to hear more updates. cheers!

Yes I am looking at something that I can take over BUT it's in the Philippines.
In the event that I can't take over anything I intend to buy a lot and build on it.

In the Philippines it's much cheaper to do these things.
I'm intending to have a mini empire because , like I said, Singapore it's impossible to do anything unless you got plenty of cash or you invented something.

Of course its cheaper overseas.

i did happen upon a tiny hotel for take over some time last year. the reason for giving up was the owner was not very well and did not have time to focus on his business so he decided to let it go at quite a cheap price (100-200K if i remember correctly).

The carpets & woodwork needed some attention. other than that it looked pretty good. not sure if its sold already.

to me Sg still has alot of potential, given the right time and opportunity.

All the best to your Philipines venture Smile

I agree Ninja that there still is potential in SG but loads of money is needed for certain businesses. If anyone is willing to spend $5_$10K to open a small foodstall or something then by all means do so but I think with a bit more cash you could do bigger and more successful biz overseas. Even $10K overseas you could already do more than in SG.

I have my online biz that already makes me money, http://ecash10.com, but I have too many ideas in my head for business. So I search for more....
