Hi guys,
My friend and I are planning to start an advertising firm. Both of us are from advertising background. We are already discussing it at the moment and ready to start once all details are confirmed.
One major problem however, is that we are not clear how advertising firm clinch deals or where to find clients. Our assumption is that we approach companies and present our concepts/ideas to them. Hopefully they will be interested and engage us. If not, do we wait for clients to come or how to look for deals? As we understand tht not all companies will engage us, if no companies engage us, where to look for clients? Is it based on clients' referral or word of mouth?
Anyone with marketing or advertising experience willing to guide us. Thanks
Hope im not confusing u all up

Hi Niks,
I am sure I am qualified to help and will like to offer help here.... Firstly I will like to confirm what you meant by advertising background....
Since you are from advertising background, I will assume that you are creating customers for your prospective clients.... At the same time, I will like to know what kind of solutions you are providing for your clients and how you can apply what you know to help yourself to find customers....
Please advise me ya.....

Please advise me ya..... Hi Inle. Thanks for replying! Both me and my partner have a degree in advertising and previously gained some experience by interning at a small advertising film locally. We would like to offer guerilla advertising or outdoor advertising to our clients. Advertising that is not the normal billboards, tv, radio stuff. But rather more unconventional that is not commonly seen. I understand that we have to pitch ideas thru presentations to clients. We should be able to get some deals by doing that. But after that, do we keep presentating endlessly or wait for client's referrals to us? Simply saying, we are not sure how and where to find clients. And how to ensure that we have a steady client base to tide thru every month. Hope im not confusing

Hi Niks,
Know who your target customers (who needs your advertising service). You can either market via pulling customer to you whereby customers approach you for your service (marketing) or the pushing your services to your customers via sales. Of course in general, we combine both by doing marketing and sales at the same time. This will keep your business going. That is regardless what business you are in.
For advertising, customers are looking at how your service can help them "pull" their targeted clients to themselves. If you know what advertising is, you should know how to you can pull customers to yourself.

And also the part you mention "market via pulling customer to you whereby customers approach you for your service (marketing)", can to elaborate more? Im learning as much as i can. Thanks

Depending on your target market. For example, for IT industry like mine, we advertise in thegreenbook (alternative to yellowpages) and customers who needed my service would call my company. This is one of the method as there are many more depending on how creative you are to pull your customer to you.
Website is another great media whereby people can search and read about your services. If your intended clients read it and feels that your services meet their objective, your business will come in...

Let me give you a little insight. Marketing is the combination of pull and push factors. You need to understand the needs of your target audience to fulfill their their needs. That is the pull factor..
Since you are new to the business. I assumed no one know you existed so 1st thing you need to do is to make your presence felt.
As the bro said, you can post on ad sites.. forums and etc to let ppl know what you providing.
If with more budget, you can get a website. By then you could consider online marketing. And create the creditability.
If really no budget, the only way is to hard sell your ideas to companies..

Hi Niks....
Thanks for getting back to me.... I was away for a while doing some work and really caught up....
I see that you are from an advertising background and I assume you and your partner have all the technicals to do great advertisements....
I am from an Artistic background and I will love to see very awesome creative works.... At the same time, it is crucial that the advertisements are not for creative purposes but should also focus on the business aspects as well....
Speaking from my Business background, that focus should address how your advertisements can be able to help businesses to attract more customers, create more sales and impact on the bottomlines....
If you like to explore how to attract more clients, I could share some insights with you personally that will Guarantee to open your minds through different perspectives of business potential that you might have overlooked....
PM me when you are ready, Niks....

Just to add....
Business Development and Marketing Strategies are MUCH MORE than just advertising.... And missing that part out is missing out a huge portion of Profit Exploding Opportunities for your business....

I work for an advertising firm.
Willing to share insights on the local scene if anyone is keen to heard me out.
BUt the bottom line thought is that advertising is not a very easy industry to be in. Margins are falling drastically and many startups are being phased out.
If anyone wants to learn more, just ask.
